Ever heard of a gatefold program? Well, its not the most popular choice for businesses but is an elegant and lovely presentation for memorials and weddings.
The gatefold is similar to a trifold but the folds come in differently. As the name implies, the folds open out simulating the opening of a gate. It is typically offered in a legal size 8.5 x 14 sheet of paper since you do need a little more room in order to achieve that nice gate fold effect.
Wedding programs as well as funeral programs are done in this type of layout but really, you can use it for birthdays, anniversaries, business presentations, or just about anything. You can think outside the box and produce a unique printed material for whatever occasion you need.
I like to use them specifically for weddings, personally. It’s different and I like that. I also have added a coordinating colored ribbon around the entire thing horizontally which makes it have a special finishing touch. This is a very difficult program to produce on your own or from scratch. So i’ve used a template to take the hard work out of it. That is definitely the way to go if you want to produce this format. Without one, you could be on the computer for days. 🙂
There are only a handful of sites that offer this as a ready made layout. I would recommend checking CelebrationsofLifeStore.com where they have a nice variety of templates for gatefold programs. Here’s a video on it to help give you a visual:
So, I recently attended a memorial service for a friend’s mom and was amazed to hear how poetry was incorporated so beautifully inside the ceremony. Some poems are very beautiful and really get to the heart of a person’s emotion. I, honestly am not a big fan of poems until recently.
In grammar school we were forced to read poems that didn’t make any sense to me therefore, it was really hard for me to connect with the words. Some just didn’t even rhyme. For a kid of 10 years, making the connection was just not happening.
Needless to say, that flowed into my adult years and poetry reading was just some obscure things people read. It wasn’t until I found poems pertaining to a certain subject that sparked my interest. Then hearing them read at a ceremony such as a wedding or memorial service really won me over!
Don’t get me wrong, I like poetry but those that are used within the context of an event. Since I’m in the business of all celebrations of life events, it was a wonderful revelation for me. Often non-religious people come to me and want to have some sort of reading or saying on a printed material and just don’t know what to put.
Enter a poem. Now I have collected a huge amount of poems stored on my website as a free reference for people who may not know where to begin looking (like me, many moons ago). I have them categorized in an orderly fashion so anyone can find exactly what they need within a few minutes and not have to delve into a huge list to sort out.
The compilation took me several years to do but its been worth it. The many accolades I’ve received for the help it has been to so many people has made its weight in gold.
Have you ever heard of prayer cards? What are they and what is their purpose? Are they cards that you pray with? Well, I’m here to set the record straight and explain exactly what these things are.
First of all, you do not need these to pray. You can hold on to them as with any object during prayer but it not a necessity. Prayer cards are 4.25″ x 2.5″ in dimension and have some kind of religious figure on the front of them. Typically, these can be seen at Catholic ceremonies but you will also see them distributed in other denominations as well during a memorial service.
The back of the prayer card contains an imprinted prayer, poem or message. It’s not required that it be a prayer on the back of the card since they are called “Prayer” cards. Some families opt to imprint a special message on the back, and that is perfectly acceptable. There isn’t any hard and fast rule that it needs to contain a prayer of some sort.
The modern prayer cards today do not contain a religious figure on the front but rather a picturesque background of flowers or outdoor landscape. I actually prefer them since they are very attractive and can be used for non-religious ceremonies as well.
The purpose of prayer cards is a giveaway the family or host wants to provide guests as a remembrance of the honoree or event. It is convenient in size and can be placed inside a wallet or purse. Handy, just handy, and people love that. It is a kind of token of remembrance that enables you to personalize by adding a photo of the honoree and their name. Most finish the card by laminating it which leaves for a longer lasting keepsake.

OK, I found the cutest things! Custom seed packets are all the rage in the favor world. If your looking for a unique type of favor or giveaway for any celebratory event, this is it!
Check them out. They are wildflower seeds in a packet like you would buy at any store but they contain a photo of the honoree or deceased, which you are using it for. You can literally use them as favors for every type of event or party possible and they make such memorable tokens of remembrance. I’m actually really excited about them, silly me, getting excited about a thing. LOL.
I guess I am in love with them because they are also friendly for the environment which is always a plus in my book. There are so many favors out there that don’t do anything or serve any type of purpose except sitting pretty on a shelf. At least with these seed packet favors, you can plant the flower seeds and see it blossom year after year. How great is that? A favor that keeps on giving every year! Love it.
You can pretty much choose the type of wildflowers you want to have inside the packets along with personalization on the front. Placing a photo of the bride and groom, birthday girl or boy, or the recently departed loved one are just some of things you can use these seed packets for.
The Celebrations of Life Store website offers the seeds in accordance with geographical region which is nice because you know exactly which wildflowers will grow best in your area of the country. So cool.
